You Built It, You Run It: 25 Years of Scale-Driven Architecture at Amazon
Speaker: Christopher Hilborne - Software Engineer, Amazon Business, Onsite Buying Experience team
A 25-year tour of how Amazon's infrastructure evolved under relentless scale pressure: from a 1995 C monolith to over 100,000 microservices deploying every few seconds today. We'll trace the 1998 Distributed Computing Manifesto, the birth of container-like deployment isolation a decade before Docker, and the pipelines that enable Amazon's "you build it, you run it" culture. Each scaling crisis forced an architectural change, and each architectural change helped to embed the culture of ownership at Amazon.
Improving the Software development lifecycle with AI tools
Speaker: Roberto Luis-Bisbe – Sr Software Engineer, Books, Kindle Enterprise team
The rise of agentic tools has drastically accelerated the production of code, and that has uncovered optimization opportunities in the software development lifecycle. In this talk we will cover three different angles: Before implementation: aggregating information, combining patterns and prototyping, during implementation: specs, steering documents and the role of deterministic guardrails, and after implementation: agents with access to the team's documentation to be the first responders on high-severity incidents.
