Bloom at CHKD on our Mental Health Team!

Explore a career in pediatrics – and have fun at the same time – at CHKD’s social hiring event on Thursday, November 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Plant House (located at The Shops at Hilltop). 

This exciting event is specifically hiring for the following roles on our mental health team:

Network with the friendly CHKD team and chat about how you can “Bloom at CHKD.” We’ll unwind amongst the greenery, enjoy creative hands-on activities, and nosh from delicious charcuterie boards.

RNs—have you thought about psych? Mental health RN experience is not required. We encourage new graduate nurses and RNs interested in this rewarding specialty to sign up!

Opportunities/Departments

Psychiatric Nursing:

Inpatient: The 11th, 12th, and 13th floors of Children’s Pavilion host a total of 60 inpatient rooms. The 11th and 12th floors are general psych, and the 13th floor is for patients who have a primary psychiatric condition and a secondary medical condition. Schedules include 12-hour shifts (7:00 am to 7:00 pm or 7:00 pm to 7:00 am) with one weekend shift every three weeks.


Mental Health Therapy:

Inpatient: Therapy in our Acute setting; deals with patients with emergent cases; schedule includes one weekend day per week.

Partial Hospitalization: Intensive therapy for patients stepping down from the Acute setting. Provides Monday through Friday therapy in a setting that closely mirrors the Acute setting.

Outpatient: Our intensive outpatient services with locations in Norfolk, Newport News, and Virginia Beach. Regular Monday through Friday schedule, some hybrid work schedules available.

Emergency Department: Intakes, Assessments, and Treatments in a Crisis/Emergency Setting.

About Children's Pavilion

CHKD is Virginia’s only freestanding, full-service children’s hospital and serves the medical needs of children throughout Coastal Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The not-for-profit CHKD Health System operates primary care practices, surgical practices, and multi-service health centers throughout this region. In 2022, CHKD opened Children’s Pavilion, a 60-bed hospital offering inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization care to address the pediatric mental health crisis facing our youth. The 14-story tower on CHKD’s Norfolk campus is hub to a robust mental health outpatient program. Other routine services in the building, such as sports medicine and primary care, help destigmatize mental health care within the pediatric population.
